Trail Report - May 1, 2008
Road Report - May 1, 2008
ATTENTION: NO LOOPS OPEN UNTIL MID-JUNE!  That’s right, we had such a
snowy winter and such a cold spring there is still TONS of snow in the
hills.  It looks like there will be no loops open until at least the middle of June,
even if it turns warm tomorrow.  This goes for 4x4 trails, motorcycle trails, hiking
trails, etc.   Sorry for the bad news, but if you actually want to ride/wheel/hike on
the trails, better plan to go elsewhere for Memorial Day.  WATCH THIS SITE
FOR UPDATES AS THINGS OPEN.

You can't go far yet on the District.  You can make it to Taneum Junction off FS
Road 33, but the trails are still snowed in, so don't expect any recreational
opportunities for the first week of May.  You can make it 1 mile past the Forest
boundary on FS Road 35 (Reecer).  Teanaway FS Road 9737 is passable for
1/2 mile past 29 Pines.  Cougar and Lion Gulch Roads (Liberty area) are snow
free for two miles.  This weekend is supposed to be fairly nice, so conditions
will change, but don't expect a big meltdown in one week.  We are still weeks
away from having trails open, snow free and passable.  Stay tuned!

Spring Resource Damage
Please do not ride (mountain bike or moto)or drive through snow patches.
Most of our trail damage is done during the spring, when snow patches are
traveled through, creating trenches and ruts in the middle of the trail.  This, in
turn, trenches the middle of trail and can cost thousands of dollars to repair.
Everyone is anxious to get out on the trail, but please remember to turn back
when you encounter snow or a tree across the trail.  Thanks!
We want you to know what's happening on the Cle Elum District.  Get involved, know what's happening, and
feel free to comment!
